An electric kettle is an electrical device that has a heating unit to heat water and automatically turns off when the water reaches its boiling point. Inside each kettle is a metal coil. Electrical energy passes through the coil, transforms into heat and heats the cold water inside. The heat pushes the water to a boil. There are two main advantages of an electric kettle: it heats water faster than a stove, and it has an automatic shut-off when the water boils.
